With effect from 1st April 2014, owing to new revised electricity rates, Reliance Energy has become cheaper than Tata power for most residential users and all commercial users. This has prompted several customers to switch to Reliance Infrastructure and save up to 25% on their monthly bills! So what are you waiting for? Here is your guide on how to switch from Tata Power to Reliance Energy and save money!
Step 1: Register
To initiate the process, visit the nearest Reliance Energy office with all your documents and put in a request. If you want to save time and avoid standing in the long queues; register online. Once you sign up, we will do all the running around and paperwork for you so that you can switch from the comfort of your home.
Step 2: Documentation
After sign up, our Customer Relations Manager will arrange a pick up of all the required documents from your home.
Here is a list of the documents required for switching:
For Residential Consumers:
While switching a residential connection, you need to submit the following along with an application form (which will be provided to you):
One identity proof
One residential proof
2 passport sized photographs
A crossed check in favor of Reliance Infrastructure
A copy of the latest paid electricity bill
For Commercial Consumers:
If you are switching a commercial connection then you need to submit the following documents:
A copy of the latest paid electricity bill
Office address proof
Owner’s identity proof
2 passport sized photographs
A crossed check in favor of Reliance Infrastructure
For Housing Societies:
If you have applied to switch the power connection of a housing society, then you need to provide the following documents:
An NOC on the society letter head
An address proof (share certificate, bank account statement etc.)
All documents must be stamped with society seal
Step 3: processing documents
Once all documents have been submitted, the power provider will take approx. 20 days to process your request. While, switching you can change your meter if you like. This depends on the consumer and is free of charge. It is advisable to do so if your meter is very old or if you feel that it runs too fast.
Step 4: Switching complete
There is no definite way to ascertain that the process has been completed. Once you start receiving your monthly electricity bill from Reliance Energy, then you can be sure that the process has been completed.

1. What is the eligibility criteria to switch to Reliance Energy from Tata Power?
There is no eligibility criteria as such. Any residential or commercial consumer, consuming any no. of units can switch to Reliance Energy with ease.
2. Is it compulsory to change my electricity meter if i switch my power provider?
No. Changing the electricity meter depends entirely on you. To change your meter, tick the option of ‘Want to change meter’ on the application form. It’s always free of cost.
3. Is there a risk involved in switching from Tata Power to Reliance Energy?
Technically speaking, there is no risk in switching from either power provider to another. If the switching charges can be recovered within 2 to 3 months, then switching will be beneficial for you. So switch today and reduce your electricity bills by 25%!
